At SCW Systems -division Steel Cleanup-, we are at the forefront of sustainable innovation in the metals and materials sector. To support our growing pipeline of clean-tech solutions, we are seeking a highly motivated R&D Researcher with a strong background in metallurgy to join our dynamic research team. 

Your Role 
As an R&D Researcher, you will play a key role in designing, executing, and optimizing experimental research related to metallurgical processes — including leaching, purification, and material recovery. You will collaborate with chemists, process engineers, and sustainability experts to scale lab findings toward pilot and industrial implementation. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Design and conduct laboratory-scale experiments focused on metal extraction, refining, and purification. 

• Develop process flowsheets and evaluate recovery efficiencies for target metals (e.g., Fe, Ni, Zn, Mn, Cr). 

• Analyze samples using metallurgical and analytical techniques (e.g., XRF, ICP-OES, SEM-EDS, XRD). 

• Support process scale-up by working closely with pilot plant and engineering teams. 

• Translate experimental results into technical reports and process documentation. 

• Contribute to patent filings, publications, and project funding proposals. 

• Ensure safe lab practices and contribute to continuous improvement of R&D operations.

• MSc or PhD in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. 

• 2+ years of experience in metallurgical R&D, preferably in extractive metallurgy or hydrometallurgy. 

• Hands-on experience with laboratory tools for solid–liquid extraction, solution chemistry, and thermochemical treatment. 

• Strong analytical skills and familiarity with materials characterization techniques. 

• Strong knowledge of XRD and XRF is a plus 

• Curious mindset with a passion for innovation and sustainability. 

• Team-oriented, proactive, and able to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment. 

• Excellent communication skills in English, Dutch is a plus.
